“A friend asked me: “How do you know, looking at a painting, if it was done on location or in the studio?” Well, the few dried-out bugs on the canvas are a dead giveaway, but the main elements I recognize are the fresh spontaneous brush strokes, as if the response came from the gut, at times bypassing the mind. Looking at the painting, you are not aware of a careful planned-out execution. Hopefully, you are aware of what moved the artist to paint that scene.”
